In the surrounding
area of Femme Osage Haus and Missouri one country
you'll find six different Wineries. Highway 94, a
beautiful winding drive is called the Missouri Weinstrauss,
or wine street.
Starting with Sugar
Creek Winery near Defiance, then on to Montel, Augusta,
Mount Pleasant, Balducci Winery and lastly Blumenhof
near Dutzow.
The Katy Trail:
A great way to see
the area is bicycling! The Katy Trail connects St.
Charles is stored Main Street area and proceeds through
the wine country, and then on to Sedalia.
This unique "Rails
to Rails" project of the Missouri Department
of natural resources was constructed from the old
map railroad bed and justly named "Katie."
Following along the
trail allows you to access the Missouri River in places,
and a chance to see nature up close.
Numerous bike rentals
are available in St. Charles, Defiance, Augusta, and
Marthasville for short or long rides.
The convenient trail
heads along the way with restrooms and parking areas
for the cyclist or hike or to take advantage of.
Historic Sites:
The Daniel Boone home
and Broonefield Village are open for tours year-round.
Historical interpreters,
dressed in period costumes provide information about
what it would have been like to live in those times.
A special time to visit
is the Christmas season when the boom home is lit
with candles and luminaries and visitors get the chance
to experience a Christmas time in the past.
The town of Augusta,
Defiance, Dutzow, Washington, and Femme Osage all
have unique and wonderful histories. Each
offers beautiful older homes, restaurants and shops
to explore.
From bakeries were
warm fresh age bred to take a picnic to the wineries,
and antique shops for the special something you'll
enjoy the trip to Missouri Wine Country and of course
the Femme Osage Haus bed and breakfast.
